Ivybank House is an imposing period residence

Recreation

A programme of social activities and regular entertainment is provided, with trips to places of local interest also being organized.

Regular services are held by local clergy, and doctors, hairdresser, chiropodist and physiotherapist are some of the professionals who visit us regularly.

We have a residents Meeting each month which is open to all residents and staff for general discussion and requests by residents, which includes discussions on entertainment and activities. Minutes are taken and acted upon, with the changes to the home, entertainment news and a list of activities is then published in the Oldbury Grange Newsletter.

Here are some of our regular activities:

  • We hold summer fayres raising money for the residents fund and for local charities. These take place on our lawn where strawberries and cream are served. All relatives are welcome.
  • Day trips during the summer months on the Severn Valley Railway to Bewdley for fish and chip lunch or afternoon teas.
  • A Christmas fayre in December is held in the conservatory with music from the local choir and organist.  We have an excellent relationship with the local primary school with children coming in to sing and donating beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

Daily activities are organized three mornings a week and usually include: 'memory lane' sessions of chat and coffee, arm chair keep fit, painting, bingo and dominoes.

Residents are encouraged to have their own plot of garden to tend with the help of our gardeners.

Birthdays are turned into a celebration, and are announced in the newsletter.

Many of Shropshire's great tourist attractions are within easy reach of Oldbury Grange, offering our residents and their visiting families a chance to have a great day out. Some of interest are:

The church that is closest to Oldbury Grange Residential Nursing Home is the Chapel of St Nicholas at Aldeburie in the great parish of Morville, which was consecrated by Robert Bethune, Bishop of Hereford in the year 1138. A Norman font existed within the church until the 19th century. The church was rebuilt in the 19th century, when the bell of 1440 was hung in a new bell turret. The church has hardly altered since 1863, although the interior has received some embellishment. For further details of all places of worship in the area please visit www.hereford.anglican.org.
